Over the years Mavis, bless her, has come under a fair amount of stick. She is inclined to be somewhat temperamental and this rubs off on runners who, on occasion, arrive at the Check Point breathless and bordering grumpy, sometimes suffering from the first stages of SOHF*
The legendary Mavis Bank and the notorious track to Lesotho View are spoken of in hushed tones, almost to avoid upsetting them.
Feeling left out, ignored and frequently glossed over Hooggenoeg Ridge lies silently in wait.
There are no tracks to assist leaden calves on Hooggenoeg Ridge and Peak. The high altitude tussock grasses and heathers test weary ankles and a lapse in concentration could lead to a random gravity check!
Two-time winner, holder of the best time by a male 50+ and founder of the Shattered Thighs Corporation (Pty) Ltd, Iain Morshead (Snowflake # 505) succinctly and aptly describes Hooggenoeg Ridge in one word, brute-iful ™

The traditional, and recommended, post-Rhodes recovery drink is at Base HQ and will be taken up to Race HQ shortly.
No prizes for guessing the brand Rhodes Run traditionalists rate the most appropriate recovery fluid. It also works wonders as a pre-event drink for those joining, or maintaining their membership of, the Rhodes Trail Run Polar Bear Club™
For those not sure of the 'brand', it is 50% of a 'Rhodes Heater'.
