Need I tell you about the adventure of a lifetime?
Of snow and ice and freezing cold?
Of mountain tracks, and those so bold
that onward go and upward climb,
until at last they reach the line
that separates the countries two
and whence they have a glorious view?
Need I tell you of the torment of a lifetime?
Of deprivations one must bear?
Of thorns that at one's flesh do tear
and bring the blood to stain the white
while all the time one tries to fight
and cross the frozen river bed
long after all one's reason's fled?
Need I tell you about the achievement of a lifetime?
Of conquering this monster race
And bringing blood back to one's face?
Of reaching first the Mavis Bank
and later passing by Ben's flank
until eventually through Carlisle
one finishes in wonderous style.
