Don't Leave only Footprints

"Runners who participant in and enjoy the privilege of running in the wild outdoors follow a strict “leave only footprints” philosophy. To contravene this rule will usually lead to disqualification from the event.

The organisers of the UTi Rhodes Trail Run side-step their own rule each year, encouraging their runners to leave more than just footprints.

Over the years the organisers have donated significant amounts of clothing and blankets to the local community, as well as educational material to the Rhodes Public School in Zakhele.

This year they initiated their ‘Run To Read’ campaign which, thanks to generous support from Apula Advertising and Johannesburg based attorneys DM Kisch Inc, was a resounding success.

A previous gold medallist at the event and double hip replacement endurance athlete Guy Jennings offered to run, again!, in a Polar Bear outfit to help raise funds for the ‘Run To Read’ campaign.

This week the organisers purchased piles of sports equipment for the school including a new volleyball net and balls, basketball and soccer balls, pumps and a full cricket team set including bats, pads, gloves, wicket-keeper gloves and pads, balls and stumps. All will be shipped to Rhodes very generously by UTi Sun Couriers."
