The power of sport and the ripple through the community.
It’s often said that sport can unite a nation.
In Zakhele the donation of sports equipment and team uniforms to the Rhodes Public School over the recent trail run weekend is having a tremendous impact on the community.
A special sports day has been arranged and pupils from Lady Frere will be the first to face the freshly kitted Rhodes netball and soccer squads. Representatives from the Department of Education and from Social Development have been invited to attend what is planned to be a very special day.
The new sports kit has not only created a sense of pride in the school.
The community has also been inspired. Parents and others from the Zakhele community are building a new netball court for the children in preparation for Friday’s big day.
Once again, much appreciation to Apula South Africa and DM Kisch Inc for sponsoring the uniforms and thanks to UTi, Ford Southern Africa and all our event partners, runners and contributors who assisted in what has become a significant community changing project.
The community ripple became a wave thanks also to the donation of books, educational material, heaters, school clothing and female sanitary items and the colourfully revamped playground with that incredibly popular "line, line" slide. People showing they care help people to care.
Friday is set to be a grand day!
