The Two Oceans Marathon and UTi Sun Couriers teamed up in June 2009 to provide hundreds of shirts to the Zakhele community.
The shirts, unused Two Oceans race shirts accumulated over a number of years, were donated to the Rhodes Trail Run to allocate to the needy at the Rhodes Public School and in the Zakhele community.
Rowyn James, Two Oceans Marathon Race Director and himself a Rhodes Trail Run veteran with a best finish of 6th position, said "far better to have them on the backs of people who need them, than in a warehouse gathering dust".
The boxes and boxes of shirts were shipped compliments of UTi Sun Couriers to Port Elizabeth where they were stored prior to them being transported to Rhodes by the Rhodes Trail Run organisers.
The shirts will be handed over to the pupils and other needy members of the community during the week leading up to the 2009 Liberty Health Rhodes Trail Run.
The organisers of the Rhodes Trail Run also have more sporting equipment, mainly soccer balls for various age groups, they will be donating to the school at the same time.
