Shrieks of excitement were heard from the Rhodes Public School recently when each child received a pen and pencil case containing pen, pencil, eraser, sharpener and other essentials.
The pencil cases, which had been shipped from Johannesburg to Port Elizabeth courtesy of UTi Sun Couriers, were generously donated to the children by Guy Jennings (Managing Director of Apula Advertising and Design). Mr Jennings, who has completed seven Rhodes Runs and is presently recovering from hip replacement surgery, was very pleased to be able to provide each pupil with their personal writing set to start the school year.
The organisers of the Rhodes Trail Run were privileged to hand over the donation on behalf of Mr Jennings to Christina Booysens, a member of the Rhodes Public School Governing Board. In addition, the Rhodes Trail Run donated five world globes and some educational material for the teaching staff, as well as some sports equipment.
Later that day the organisers of the Liberty Medical Scheme Rhodes Trail Run handed over boxes of books to the Rhodes Public Library which will be of benefit to the entire community. The books had been arranged through a Port Alfred book club.
